Montreal translator Sheila Fischman among Molson Prize recipients
A Montreal-based literary translator and a University of Victoria professor known for his work on the history of sexuality have won this year’s Molson Prizes.Sheila Fischman has translated more than 125 books by writers including Gaetan Soucy, Anne Hebert and Michel Tremblay. Angus McLaren is the author of several books on sexuality, gender and reproduction. He lives in Vancouver.
The annual awards, worth $50,000 each, are funded from an endowment given to the Canada Council for the Arts by the Molson Foundation.
One prize recognizes work in the arts, while the other lauds achievements in the sciences or humanities.
